... John Paul II dominated the girls side with junior Teresa Conroy grabbing her second straight All-Big Bend Player of the Year award, while Panthers coach Tim Murray has been named the 2014 All-Big Bend Coach of the Year for girls golf after taking his school to the state tournament for the second year in a row.

“I played really solid this whole season and improved a lot, and hopefully I can continue to do so for next year,” said Conroy, who averaged 37 for nine holes. “I just need to continue to play good golf, shoot low scores, and hopefully I’ll wind up somewhere playing Division-I golf.”

Conroy, who shot a personal best 3-under par 69 this season at Southwood to win a district title, is on the first team for the fourth straight season. She won a city title with a round of 72 and a regional title with a round of 73. Conroy, along with two-time first team selection Grace Murray, helped start the John Paul II program as freshmen. For the past two seasons, the Panthers have sported a full team and have made the state tournament both years.

“We had a great year, the kids played awesome, got to go to state again, had a lot of fun in the playoffs and run up to state,” said Tim Murray, honored for the first time.

“We’re trying at JPII to create an environment that builds good kids that do a good job with school and the other things around them. Hopefully we can keep it going.”
