SJPII Panther Football – Preseason #10
SJPII Panthers are #10 in the power ranking preseason.
10. John Paul II Panthers
The only team among the top 10 that didn’t play a preseason game, JP2 may be a small, independent school, but it returns a lot of key skill positions off a team that competed for its conference title last year. They’d get beat playing larger schools, sure, but that’s not the debate. Although, I’m betting Panthers coach Cedric Jones would throw junior quarterback Brian Woodend and junior receiver Sam Smith up against anyone for that argument.

JPII Panther Football Preview
JP2 football preview: Panthers out for consistency after record year
John Paul II returns top skill talents following last year’s 6-4, conference runner-up season
“As much as it may seem like an encore season, after John Paul II’s program-best six wins last year, the Panthers want everyone to look back and see there were no strange outliers.
They want consistency year to year, and there’s no better time than the present to improve upon last year’s 6-4 mark…”
St. John Paul II Runners take North Carolina
St. John Paul II Catholic High School senior runners Emma and Julia Rose Travis attended the Smokey Mountain Running Camp this past week in North Carolina.
Running two-a-days, hearing talks from collegiate coaches, and enjoying the mountains, Emma and Julia Rose came back full of excitement for this coming season and their senior year. Julia Rose is the current school record holder in the 5,000m for Cross Country (21:32.30), 1,600m (5:56.50) and 3,200m (13:14.02). Emma holds the school record in the 300m Hurdles (58.96) for Track and Field.
Both our boys and girls teams have been conditioning all summer for this coming year and have high hopes for the District and Regional meets. The Panther’s first meet will be August 27th at the annual Cougar XC challenge at Elinor Klapp-Phipps Park. Girls race will start at 8 am followed by the boys at 8:40 am. The Panther’s also plan to host a home meet this season before the Brookwood Football game so come out early to tailgating on September 9th and support our Panther Cross Country Team!
